This research project seeks to broaden our field of studies on the Brazilian art of the 19th and 20th centuries, covering the production, circulation and reception of works of art. Regarding the art production, it includes both the performance of Brazilians abroad and foreigners in Brazil.
Regarding the circulation, we study the exhibitions and the reproductions of works of art, understanding such means as essentials for the realization of art and the relationship between artists and audiences.
Finally, thinking about the reception of works of art, we analyze the critical texts and the spectators’ expectations that contributed to the constitution of the artistic field. We also seek to deepen our knowledge about private and public art collections that fostered interpretations of art history.
